Vancouver Island Horseback Riding

Cowichan Valley
Cowichan Valley, Adrian Dorst photo
Swing up into a saddle for a memorable ride along one of the island's many scenic trails. Choices abound from guided, hourly jaunts through the countryside to overnight rides along rugged mountain routes. Rodeo fans: don't miss the Luxton Pro Rodeo in Langford, which takes place in May.

Trail riding tours are available for all skill levels – many offer lessons to prepare beginners before getting into the saddle. Professional guides determine which horse best suits a person's style and ability - and both English and Western riding techniques can be taught.

Popular riding areas include: Cobble Hill, Mill Bay and Duncan, as well as the Comox Valley and Southeast Vancouver Island.

Horseback Riding in the Comox Valley

Saddle up for guided tours in the Comox Valley near Mt. Washington and jog along alpine trails, past meadows overflowing with wildflowers. En route, the views are glorious of the towering peaks of the Coast Mountains as well as the breathtaking ocean vistas.

Horseback Riding in Southeast Vancouver Island

Riders will find they have easy access from downtown Victoria to sun-dappled trails or the sprawling ranches in the countryside.

Head to the Cowichan region, which is home to several riding stables, for a half-day jaunt or overnight excursion along spectacular rainforest trails leading to mountain summits. Hook up with the Trans Canada Trail (which links all of Canada, from coast to coast).
