Tumbler Ridge is a hiker's paradise with routes winding past waterfalls, river valleys, and into mountain alpine areas. The Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society has developed an excellent trails system in the area. Hikers will find a range of trails ranging from easy to advanced, and from short single- day to multi-day hikes.

Single-Day Hikes near Tumbler Ridge

Choose from any number of hikes near Tumbler Ridge, such as Cabin Pool and Flatbed Falls Trails, and the Bergeron Cliffs Hiking Trail, linked to the Bergeron Falls Trail.   The quickest routes are a steep short jaunt up to the Bald Spot on Tumbler Ridge, providing a great view of town, or Tumbler Point Hiking Trail (Bergeron Drive at the edge of town) through the Bird Sanctuary and to a viewpoint overlooking Flatbed Creek. Quality Canyon and Quality Mouth Hiking Trails, 6km/3.7mi from town, offer a several kilometre/mile journey along a historic pack trail with a gorgeous river and canyon view.

Single-Day Hikes outside Tumbler Ridge

Hiking in Tumbler Ridge Area - JF Bergeron Bullmoose Marches (24km/15mi along Highway 29) offers a trail network through a different landscape, including a pretty wetland area.  The Stone Corral Trail located in Monkman Provincial Park, 65km/40.4mi from Tumbler Ridge, is a loop trail that takes a couple of hours to complete.  The trail leads along a relatively flat stretch past wetlands, to a small lake surrounded by cliffs, and up a steep section overlooking the lake, passing by a couple of small caves.  Boulder Gardens Trail, 32.9km/20.4mi from town, leads up Mount Babcock to a jumble of large rocks that make up Boulder Gardens.

Multi-day Wilderness Hikes

A challenging 63km/39.2mi route, the Monkman Pass Memorial Trail begins at Kinuseo Falls Campground. This historic route was first envisioned and built by Alex Monkman between the 1920s and 1930s. The route passes through lower elevation forests, along the Murray River, past cascading waterfalls, and into higher elevations of steep and rugged terrain. Spend a few days in Wapiti Lake Provincial Park, hiking the 30km/18.6mi Wapiti Onion Hiking Trail.  Discover pristine lakes, rivers, and alpine meadows. Stay at the BC Parks shelter located at km19/mi11.8, with a lovely view of Wapiti Lake.

Additional routes worth checking out include Holzworth Meadow, Murray Canyon Overlook, Cowmoose Mountain, Pinnacle Peak, Mount Spieker and more.

Check with the Tumbler Ridge Visitor Centre for more information about hiking in the area and to pick up detailed hiking brochures.
