Ranches in the Thompson Okanagan region have much to offer even the most horse-shy urban dweller. While horseback riding excursions of various kinds are universal ranch offerings, visitors can engage in all sorts of other activities that include hiking, biking, snowmobiling and fishing.
Most ranches offer luxury accommodations with all the bells and whistles. Of course, roughing it a little or a lot is always an option - you can opt for a simple cabin or even a yurt. At some ranches, you can also spend a day out on the range driving cattle with real cowboys.
The best time to visit a ranch depends on what you want to see and do. Cattle driving happens in the spring and fall, which are also the peak times for fishing. In most places, hiking, biking and horseback riding are possible year round, but if you're averse to chilly temperatures you'll get more enjoyment out of a late-spring-to-early-fall visit.
