Widely considered a leading golf destination, Vancouver offers a wealth of courses designed by world-class architects such as Arnold Palmer, Les Furber, Thomas McBroom, Lee Trevino and Michael Hurdzan.
High praise for Vancouver's golf courses
A round at Coquitlam's Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club is a must. Set high above the city on Eagle Mountain, just 45 minutes from downtown Vancouver, the course has been described by Golf Digest as "the best game in town."
At Surrey's Northview Golf & Country Club — a seven-time host of the PGA Tour's Greater Vancouver Open/Air Canada Championship — golfers can follow in the footsteps of the pros. Other Surrey highlights include the popular Morgan Creek Golf Course and the Peace Portal Golf Club.
Two local favourites, Swan-e-set Bay and Meadow Gardens, are found less than an hour east of Vancouver in the suburb of Pitt Meadows.
For those seeking 18 holes in a truly iconic West Coast setting, Furry Creek Golf & Country Club is not to be missed. Overlooking the pristine waters of Howe Sound from the base of the Coast Mountains, Furry Creek, which is located about a 40-minute drive from Vancouver and is south of Squamish, is widely known as "BC's most scenic golf course."
Golfing season and tips
While the golf season in the Vancouver area tends to run from April to October, the region's famously mild climate allows a good many clubs to stay open all year long.
A few things to remember about your golf trip or excursion: tee times should be booked in advance of arrival, especially during July and August. Many courses have a dress code in effect, so be sure to check with the course or resort for what to bring.
