Kootenay Rockies Golf Touring

St. Eugene Mission Golf Course
St. Eugene Golf Course,
Don Weixl photo
The Kootenay Rockies region - marked by spectacular alpine landscape of dramatic elevation changes, lush rainforests, abundant wildlife, and rugged peaks - offers a superb selection of more than 25 championship golf courses, many of which are award winning.

End a day at the links with a muscle rejuvenating soak at one of the region's natural mineral hot springs resorts, three of which are near or feature golf courses: Balfour Golf Course is 15min from Ainsworth Hot Springs; Fairmont Hot Springs Resort features 2 championship golf courses; and the Les Furber-designed Springs Course at Radium Hot Springs Resort within the town of Radium Hot Springs. Experience the incredible wildlife of the Kootenay Rockies at Creston Golf Club, where moose and elk frequent the greens. Tour the region's 5 Les Furber designed courses, including Canada's first ever Les Furber Signature, in Rossland.

Award-Winning Golf Resorts in the Kootenay Rockies

Greywolf Golf Course is the number one public course in British Columbia, according to SCOREGolf, Canada’s leading golf publication (2008). Greywolf’s signature hole, aptly-named “Cliffhanger,” is a challenging stunner. Successful tee shots must clear Hopeful Canyon to land on an island-like green with rocky, vertical drops on three sides.

Eagle Ranch Golf Resort, Invermere - Eagle Ranch Golf ResortTwo other Kootenay Rockies golf resorts also made SCOREGolf’s 2008 “Top 100 Canadian Courses” list: Invermere’s Eagle Ranch Golf Resort and The Springs Course at Radium Resort. Both of these courses wind alongside the mighty Columbia River, with ancient bluffs and hoodoos at Eagle Ranch, and pristine views of the Columbia Valley at The Springs.

New Golf Courses in the Kootenay Rockies

Shadow Mountain, located near Cranbrook, is expected to open July 2009, and will feature one of the longest layouts in BC (6,767m/7,400yd). Redstone Golf Resort – Canada’s first Les Furber Signature course – has recently reached completion, and will be open for the 2009 season.

Planning a Golf Trip to the Kootenay Rockies

  • The golf season runs approximately April to October.
  • Tee times should be booked in advance of arrival, especially during July and August.
  • Many courses have a dress code in effect. Be sure to check with the course or resort.
