You'll find a wonderful variety of cycling terrain in this region. Try the Williams Lake River Valley Trail for a more tranquil ride. You'll pass through forest and grasslands flanked by magnificent cliffs and sweeping views of the Cariboo's legendary rolling hills.

Visit local bike shops and Visitor Centres for trail maps.

A word or two on safety:

  • Bicycle helmets are mandatory in BC
  • Lights required at night
  • Cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as motor vehicle drivers
  • Obey posted signs and keep to designated trails

Williams Lake

Williams Lake is a picturesque ranching community in the heart of the Cariboo. A service centre and transportation hub in the region, it makes a great “home base” for fishing, bird watching and biking excursions in surrounding areas.

You'll navigate some top-notch cycling trails in the Williams Lake area. For a leisurely ride, follow the Williams Lake River Valley Trail, a wide, gently graded gravel trail dotted with interpretive signs and bridges made from the floors of old railroad boxcars. The route begins in a park-like setting in town, and extends 12 km (7.5 mi) into the countryside. It follows the Williams Lake River and takes in open grassland banked by cliffs and a Douglas-fir forest before terminating on the eastern bank of the mighty Fraser River. There is a slight climb on the return trip.

Trail brochures and information about guided tours are available from the Williams Lake Visitor Centre.
