West Vancouver
Just west of the Lions Gate Bridge, West Vancouver (population: 42,131) is comprised of scenic neighborhoods set along the shore of Burrard Inlet and Howe Sound. Numerous residential areas also populate the slopes of the North Shore Mountains.
Long before European arrival, the North Shore was the traditional territory of the Squamish and Burrard Bands of the Coast Salish peoples. Today you can visit the First Nations Cultural Centre located at the Capilano Suspension Bridge attraction to see live demonstrations of Aboriginal cedar carving, weaving and beadwork.
Nestled in nature, West Vancouver is bounded by forests, mountains and sea. There are some 110 breathtaking parks to explore with opportunities for hiking, cycling, boating, skiing and just plain relaxing. You can also journey along some 100 km (60 mi) of paths from urban walks to wilderness trails.
West Vancouver is also the gateway to charming Horseshoe Bay where you can hop a BC Ferry bound for Bowen Island, the Sunshine Coast or Vancouver Island.
