Wells (population: 236) is a restored 1930s mining town located in the heart of historic Cariboo country.

The town has charm, wildlife, wilderness scenery and a taste of the wild, wild West.
Just east of Wells is Barkerville Historic Town, one of BC’s most popular attractions with some 125 restored heritage buildings from the 1860s to 1930s recalling the great Cariboo Gold Rush booms. See the family-friendly Theatre Royal shows featuring acts in the same style as those enjoyed by miners over 100 years ago.

Hikers come to the area for some of the most diverse hiking trails in BC. Several loop trails branch off from the Cariboo Waggon Road through the famous gold fields. The extensive Mount Agnes Trail Network leads you through alpine meadows with dramatic mountain backdrops.

Wells is also the closest community to Bowron Lakes Provincial Park, featuring one of the top canoe circuits in the world.

In winter, the area attracts snowmobilers, backcountry skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers.

While you’re here, don’t miss the Wells Museum and the nearby Quesnel Museum and Archives which boasts over 30,415 artifacts relating to period farming, logging and mining life in BC.
