Valemount
Valemount (population 1,018) was named by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1927. The moniker stands for “valley in the mountains.” The town certainly lives up to its billing, surrounded as it is by three mountain ranges: the Cariboo Mountains and Premier Range to the west; the Monashee Range to the south; and the Rocky Mountains to the east.
Valemount is just a 20-minute drive from Mt Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Valemount is surrounded by spectacular provincial and regional parks. Probably the most renowned is Mount Robson Provincial Park, a World Heritage Site. Here, world-class hiking and mountain-biking trails for people of all experiences abound.
Heli-hiking and tours leave from Valemount as well, either to drop climbers and their guides into otherwise inaccessible backcountry, or to take visitors on a soaring sightseeing trip of the area.
Exquisite mountain scenery, pristine air, gracious and friendly locals and close proximity to remarkable outdoor recreation experiences sum up the Valemount way.
