Nakusp
Small and vibrant, the community of Nakusp (population: 1,524) sits at the foot of the Selkirk Mountains on the eastern shore of Upper Arrow Lake. Originally established in response to the mining boom in the nearby Slocan Valley, the village remains rich in natural wonders.
Fringed by the mountain peaks, including the Monashee Mountains to the west, Nakusp is situated close to several wilderness and family-friendly provincial parks, making the community a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Enjoy fishing and swimming in Arrow Lake or hiking into the mountains for scenic views. In winter, the region attracts skiers and snowmobilers. Several nearby natural hot springs enable you to soothe body and spirit.
Settled around 1892, the community never became a major mining centre, but its strategic position along the Arrow Lakes shipping route in the early 1900s enabled the town to thrive.
