Biking, Mount Washington Alpine Resort photo
Mount Washington has long been renowned for its optimal snow conditions, often lasting from late fall to mid-April. Much of the four-season resort's attraction lies in its location: on a clear day, visitors to its 1,588m/5,210ft summit are rewarded with stupendous views of the many peaks of Strathcona Provincial Park, the Comox Glacier, Mount Arrowsmith, the Strait of Georgia and Mount Baker in Washington State.
In winter, phenomenal snowfall and surprisingly mild temperatures draw downhill skiers and snowboarders the world over to the idyllic island mountain, voted in the top 10 Best Powder by Ski Canada Magazine (2008). Indeed, this spectacular alpine playground has grown to become Vancouver Island's largest skiing and boarding facility.
During the summer months, Mount Washington is a key island destination for a host of activities, particularly mountain biking and hiking. The resort also acts as the gateway to spectacular Strathcona, BC's oldest provincial park.
Getting to the ResortMount Washington is located on Vancouver Island, a 20min drive west of Courtenay and Comox, as well as just over an hour's drive north of Nanaimo.
The Comox Valley and Campbell River airports are serviced daily from Vancouver. There are also direct flights from Calgary to Comox.
A daily shuttle operates between the resort and Nanaimo, Parksville and Qualicum Beach. Mount Washington is also easily accessible from Vancouver by car via the Horseshoe Bay-Nanaimo ferry route.
