Gibsons
Gibsons (population: 4,182), known as the “Gateway to the Sunshine Coast,” is located on the west shore of Howe Sound, accessible by a scenic 40-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay. While just 32 km (20 mi) from Vancouver, Gibsons is a world away in atmosphere, with a fresh-air, small-town ambience. Residents take advantage of the temperate climate and natural vistas to enjoy the beaches, parks, cafes and outdoor recreation for which the area is justly famed.
The waters around Gibsons are a kayaker’s and sailor’s dream. Miles of protected waterways feature clusters of islands, numerous channels and sheltered inlets – all against a backdrop of majestic mountains.
The Sunshine Coast has more artists, crafters and artisans per capita than almost any other area in Canada. Visitors can take guided tours of galleries and studios, where it is possible to watch painters, potters, sculptors, woodworkers, fibre artists and Aboriginal artists at work.
