Chemainus (population: 4,500) is a quaint, seaside village adjacent to central Vancouver Island’s Cowichan Valley. Once a rough-and-tumble mill town, it now boasts a award-winning theatre, various interesting boutiques, antique shop, and galleries, and an internationally renowned outdoor art display, consisting of 37 murals and 12 sculptures. These impressive artworks can be viewed on a self-guided walking tour of the downtown district.

The old-growth fir trees and white sandy beaches surrounding Chemainus create a diverse wilderness setting, complemented by abundant wildlife. The area's parks - Fuller Lake Park, Askew Creek Park, and Kin Beach Park - offer great wilderness and wildlife viewing, as well as swimming, boating, deep-sea diving, and fishing.
