Cache Creek
For a long time, Cache Creek (population: 1,037) was merely a stopover on the way to somewhere else: the Shuswap wintered in pit houses there; it’s thought fur traders used it as a place to “cache” furs and supplies; and prospectors used it as a rest-stop on the way to the Cariboo gold fields. Today, it’s a destination in itself with plenty of comfortable accommodation, fun events and family-friendly attractions. The town centre has a “Back to the Fifties” theme, complete with parked vintage cars. “Graffiti Days,” an annual event in support of this theme, is a high point on the local calendar.
Around Cache Creek, you’ll find a lot of working ranches, including one that looks just as it did in the Gold Rush era, and Aboriginal sites of interest. You’ll also find a variety of terrains: rolling grassland, cactus and sagebrush-covered hills and mountains.
Cache Creek is located at the junction of Trans Canada Highway 1 and Highway 97 North.
