With Summer winding down and the potential of an increased workload looming on the horizon, a R&R getaway was just what I needed.  Having worked in the Tourism Industry, I had heard many great things about the city of Cranbrook and made the decision go up there for a few days.  Cranbrook is a very short flight from Vancouver and is nestled in the rugged Kootenay Rockies Region of British Columbia.

I really had no idea of what to expect while in Cranbrook other than what I had heard about it and what I had researched on the web.  I have to say that Cranbrook is a friendly town of approx. 18,000 with a healthy outdoor lifestyle consisting of golfing, hiking, boating, fishing, horseback riding and much more.  I knew I had made the right decision as soon as I planted my feet on the airport tarmac.

My days at Cranbrook were filled with activities. From hiking on the numerous trails sprinkled around the community forest and by the bird sanctuary located at Queen Elizabeth, to swinging some iron clubs at the local golf courses in town, time just flew by. My evenings were spent enjoying the many dining experiences around town.

The accommodations were first class. I stayed at the re-modeled Best Western with a wonderful view of the beautifully carved mountains enveloped in a natural setting.  Each morning I would sit out on the patio drinking locally brewed coffee by the Kicking Horse coffee company and watching spectacular sunrises occurring early every morning.  Good times!

Suffice to say that whether you are looking for a relaxing or active getaway in British Columbia, consider Cranbrook.

With summer winding down and the potential of an increased workload looming the horizon, an R&R getaway was just what I needed.  I had heard many great things about the Rockwater Secret Cove Resort on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast and made the decision go up there for a couple of days.

I really had no idea of what to expect at the Resort other than what I had heard about it and what I had read on their website.  I have to say the Resort was simply amazing and I wish I could’ve stayed and extra day or two.

The Resort is a scenic hour’s drive from the Langdale Ferry Terminal and takes you through quaint, coastal little areas such as Gibsons, Sechelt and Davis Bay.  In Sechelt make sure you stop for a coffee at the Bean Around the World cafe.  Great coffee served by really friendly staff.

Upon arrival I noticed that the Resort was tucked in a cove with breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding coastal Islands.  I was greeted by friendly staff who were very knowledgeable of the area and provided me with the insider scoop on what to do and where to go.

The next couple of days were filled with activities from walking to hiking and time just flew by.  With twilight dwindling my evenings were spent hanging out by the outdoor pool and sampling the various delicious and healthy foods at the resort’s restaurant.  Amazing food was prepared and served by even more amazing staff.

The accommodations were first class. I stayed in a large 1 bedroom suite overlooking the cove with a wonderful view of the surrounding areas.  Each morning I sat on the patio drinking coffee, reading a book and soaking in the atmosphere.  Good times!

I could go on and on but suffice to say that whether you are looking for a relaxing or active getaway, check out the Rockwater Secret Cove Resort.

With Summer winding down and the potential of an increased workload looming the horizon, a R&R getaway was just what I needed. I had heard many great things about Echo Valley Ranch and Spa and made the decision go up there for 4 days. The Ranch is a 6 hour scenic drive from Vancouver and is nestled in the Cariboo Chilcotin Region of British Columbia.

I really had no idea of what to expect at the Ranch other than what I had heard about it and what I had read on their website. I have to say, the Ranch was amazing and I wish I could’ve stayed longer.

On the first night of arrival the staff had arranged for an outdoor BBQ, a campfire complete with a stockbroker-turned-cowboy strumming country tunes much to the delight of all us city tourists not quite used to this type of outdoor hospitality. While roasting marshmallows I could not help but notice the hundreds of stars that brightly dotted the night sky. I came to the realization that light pollution was virtually non-existent here which made my star gazing experience truly mesmerizing.

The next few days were filled with activities. From participating in Thai yoga every morning at 7:00am, horseback riding, fly fishing and hiking, time just flew by. My evenings were spent sampling the various Thai massages offered by the Ranch. I have to tell you that I’ve never experienced more authentic Thai massages anywhere. It was a truly relaxing experience.

With an Austrian chef preparing delicious and healthy meals served 3 times a day, I could’ve stayed in the dining area all day long. Amazing food was prepared and served by even more amazing staff.

The accommodations were first class. I stayed in a large ranch cabin next to the horse stables with a wonderful view of the mountains and surrounding areas. Each morning I sat on the porch drinking coffee, reading a book and soaking in the atmosphere. Good times!

I could go on and on but suffice to say that whether you are looking for a relaxing or active getaway
