Trail with a view

Recently, I hiked one of the Juniper Point trails  at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. For the time and travel invested it was an awesome payout. The trail is pretty easy going for the first three quarters then it's down some steps and step-like rocks to a landing on a big boulder with an awesome view West in the Georgia Strait. The great part is how close you are to the city and downtown but because of where you are situated, you can't see any civilization besides the odd boat. It's like your own lil' paradise. It's clearly a popular spot with the locals as I see many families and people walking there dogs along the trail.

may 30th lions hike

thought i would try the lions a little earlier this year. ive been up there many times and really like the hike, it's got many differant aspects to the hike and know the hike very well. i knew there was going to be quite abit of snow so i took my crampons and a pik. if you've been up there yourself you will know what sections that im going to talk about. after you head over the bridge after the the small trail you get into a rock section then it goes into a switchback section in the tree's. this is were if you havent been up there before it might be the end for you, there were many trees that have falling since last year (big trees) and the path is blocked all over the place and most of the flags and trail markings are gone. i did not have fun through this section after that i came to the rock section before the ridge, still 3 feet of snow needed my crampons. i would not suggest going up there quite yet all in all i had i good day the weather was great and there was no one else up there, i wonder why. i do hope that the tree's get cleaned up for this season as it's a great hike even for the non-experienced hope to see you in the mountians soon good hiking to all !   ps picture not from this trip will post some soon

Beaches in the Northwest

Recently my wife and I drove the Alaska highways and did some exploring in the Northwest part of BC.  We found an incredible white sand beach near Bella Coola that was just out of this world.  Not a mosquito to be seen and the water was warm enough for swimming.

I highly recommend a trip out this way

Wedding on the Water

My favorite great find was when my husband and I decided to get married ON the water, and the way we decided to do that was by marrying on the 14th street wharf in West Vancouver.  After getting permits, organizing the ceremony, and all the usual wedding preparations, we pulled it off with just a brief rain shower shortly before the  "I DO's" began.  All our guests said  how beautiful it was and what a clever idea to get married outside at such an interesting site, with the Lionsgate Bridge and Stanley Park sitting majestically in the background.  It was a dream come true and will always be a wonderful memory.  Everytime we go to Ambleside Beach we look over to where we wed and back at each other with a huge smile.  When we stroll on Marine Drive, window shopping or relaxing over a light snack, we see the beautiful neighborhood with the lovely flowers and the call of the ocean in the backgroud and again remember our special day.

Lighthouse Park

Lighthouse Park is about a 25 minute drive from downtown Vancouver.  Most people get here by car, public bus service is available.  What makes it unique is it is 185 acres of old growth forest -- the last of its kind in the Vancouver area.  In addition to the impressive and nearly ancient Douglas firs, western hemlocks and red cedars are the stunning views of the shoreline, Vancouver and Vancouver Island.  A great place to admire (or jump over) the sunset!

Tip: Wear your hiking shoes.  Trails can be muddy and rocky areas are slippery when wet.

Fish & Chips and Ferries

If you read my previous entry on Sechelt, you will know that I had to go back to finish my summer rituals. Well, the Thanksgiving dinner beckoned (as did my mom) and I just got back from another "stuffed" trip to the Sunshine Coast. In fact, this weekend was a bit more relaxing than usual: I reserved my spot on the ferry. Instead of missing a sailing and hanging out in the car for an extra few hours, as per my normal ferry routine, I pretty much drove on just minutes before the ferry was ready to leave. Reservations can be made online at BC Ferries; they cost about $15 and I highly recommend them during peak travel dates - weekends, holidays, and summer. However, if you do get caught without a reservation, I also recommend another dinner ritual that beckons - fish & chips. Once your car is parked in line, walk out of the Horseshoe Bay terminal (bring your ferry ticket with you), and head to Troll's Restaurant. They know the ferry schedule off by heart and will ensure you get your hot fries back to your car before loading begins. While I enjoyed my reservation, I must admit I missed having the time to indulge in my traditional fish & chips.
