Just a few short weeks ago BC Ferries introduced one of it's newest vessels into service, the Northern Expedition, sailing from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert. I recently jumped onboard this 15-hour scenic extravaganza through BC's Inside Passage - check out the video to see what I found.

Wow, Cape Scott was amazing, It blew my mind. The 16.8 KM hike to Nels Bight was an experince I want to share with everyone. The first 3 km take you to Eric Lake a beautiful lake. I wish I had time to fish in there or bring in a canoe. As you keep walking theres cool Boardwalks and amazing scenery. I dipped my feet while eating lunch in the Fishermans River. that was nice. when we finally got to the beach (not to brag 4hours and 23 minutes) I was stunned to see how big the beach was. We camped out for 4 days. We thought we might be bored but were we wrong. We walked to experiment bight as well. The dune Neck was really cool. The history was rick with First Nations Culture. It is a must go....Don't get scared on the logging road either..We did it in a 1988 Honda Civic!!!!!!

Leaving home to go to Port Hardy

 Hello my fellow travelers,

My name is Joe and I've just moved to Port Hardy for the summer. I will call myself a visitor becuase that is what I am. While making the drive up to Port Hardy, I found that in between Port McNeill and Port Hardy this is sort of a bear alley. I saw 8 black bears just in 34 kms!!!! I was so happy to see the bears eating the grass. I wish I had my camera ready, I could have taken pictures of these beautiful creatures.  I will have to drive that way on day again.

When I arrived in Port Hardy the first thing I noticed was its beauty. It had a small town feel but without the "I'm going to be bored all the time" feel to it. I drove to the Visitor's centre to get an understanding for the area, and where to figure out where I was living for the summer. They were so helpful. The amount of activities they gave me are limitless. I can't wait to get out and explore this area!!!!!

Till next time!!! :)

Traveling the Heritage Discovery Circle Tour you leave Highway 19 at Port Hardy and head north to Prince Rupert on the BC Ferry, Queen of Prince Rupert.  The ferry travels the majestic Inside Passage that stretches along British Columbia's coastline.  Here you are dwarfed by majestic peaks rising skyward from the ocean ringed in mist.  Waterfalls lace their way down mountain slopes.  You can catch sight of soaring eagles, Orcas, and mayby a bear foraging along the shoreline.  You follow in the wake of history where many have sailed before.  Truly an exciting Experience.

We were touring the Island in our motorhome and decided take a different route home. We prebooked passage on 'The Queen of the North' and so when it was time we headed to Port Hardy, and drove our motorhome onto the ship and left for Prince Rupert. It was an amazing journey, lasting 15 hours. We went past small communities like Bella Bella, and other smaller ones, many light houses, and some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. This was about 18 months ago, and unfortunately, that ship sank!!  Yikes!! I hear they have a new one, and are still getting some bugs out of it. Hopefully it will have better luck than the last one. It's called Northern Adventure, and we are planning on going back soon. I would recommend it to anyone.

Garden Paradise

A little known wonder on North Vanc. Is. is this garden, growing amid the rain forest trees. A man named Bernt Ronning lived here in the early 1900,s. He got seeds from all over the world and planted them here. There are many exotic trees, flowers and shrubs growing here, including 'monkey puzzle trees', which there are seedlings available to those who wish to have one and grow it in their own yard. The trees in the centre of this picture are these trees. This place is amazing and well worth the drive. Go west from Port Hardy on the Holberg to Cape Scott road. About half way to Cape Scott is the sign. It's a 15 minute walk to the Garden.

A quiet cove called Hecate Cove, near Quatsino, a small settlement on Quatsino Sound on the north end of Vancouver Island. We have a lot here that we eventually want to build a cottage on for our get-away place. Can't wait!
