This was a great get-a-way driving up a mountain in a Dune Buggy.
We can leave our car at the Kawkawa Lake Resort & Campground and go from there.
There is also swimming and water sports available at a low day rate.

The Othello Tunnels near Hope were a surprisingly magnificent find for this BC resident. After visiting, I wondered how it was possible that I had not heard of this fantastic rest-stop before. Best visited when approaching Hope from Princeton (Hwy 3), or Merrit (Hwy 5), this stop is not just about old railway tunnels.
Perhaps more dramatic, are the roaring rapids cutting the canyon floor and the refreshing, cool air the thundering velocity of their water offers a road-weary traveller. The tunnels themselves are dark, damp and cavernous - the path daring you to venture in. Your reward? Viewing the next hairpin turn of the rapids and another tunnel before you. Adults, kids, and dogs will return to your vehicle entertained, exercised and rejuvenated.

I've spent my past few birthdays now at Kw'o:kw'e:hala and they have been among my most magical yet! 2 years ago I visited on my own and I spent my birthday hiking the Hope-Nicola Valley Trail with Sue. My most recent birthday I brought my boyfriend (now fiancee) to Kw'o:kw'e:hala with me and we spent the day lounging about in our cabin reading books and listening to the rain on the roof. Both were truly different and perfect days!
The property has a wood-fired hot tub and a wood-fired sauna (both are amazing) and an outdoor shower and fire-pit (who doesn't love a good campfire!). It has it's own private beach and is very easy access to the spectacular Kettle Valley Railway Tunnels at Othello. It's very peaceful here, you are right on the river, and Sue is a fabulous cook! She has created a lovely garden so much of what you eat is very fresh.
Henry and Sue are wonderful hosts and great people and now friends. Kw'o:kw'e:hala offers a unique experience in a beautiful setting and is worth exploring for a week or weekend or anything in between.

Three cities along a 200km stretch of highway. Gas stations between cities: non-existent. That's what you're faced with driving the Coquihalla Highway, Hwy 5, between
Hope and
Kamloops. While it's absolutely drivable don't head off without checking your gas tank first. You know your own vehicle the best, so gauge your fuel consumpition accordingly.
Merritt is roughly 100km from both Kamloops and Hope - smack-dab in the middle of the route - if you are travelling during the day you'll need at least enough gas to get there. If you are travelling at night you may need to drive the whole stretch on a single tank of gas. Cell phone service is spotty along this mountainous highway, so if you do run out of gas you may not be able to quickly call for service. And if you get a tow truck to deliver fuel to you, be prepared to pay an outragious price for the gas. Save the hassle and check your fuel first. Contact one the respective
Visitor Info Centres for more information on the locations and hours of operation of local gas stations. Road conditions along the Coquihalla are available from the
Ministry of Transportation.
