We spent the day with mountain bike racer Trent Zoobkoff from Nelson BC on one of his favorite trails called 'Powerslave.' Nelson has the most amazing scenery and some of the best single track mountain bike trails world wide. Thanks to Trent for taking us out and sharing one of his favorite spots with us.

The best time of year for XC riding in Golden starts in September. The official Moonraker trail crew and the unofficial volunteers have been improving the trails all summer, the blazing heat is finished, the autumn colours are emerging, and best of all, the bugs are dead. There are over 50km of trails on this expanding network, the first dusting of snow is on the surrounding peaks, and recent rain has made the trails tacky and smooth.

Kicking Horse Bike Park is Growing

No other Bike Park in BC is growing at the rate of Kicking Horse. New features and trail improvements go up weekly and word is getting out. Rider numbers have grown 100% in the last two years, and are on target for another 50% growth in 2009! That's pretty impressive for a recession. But there are still almost no line-ups. This mountain is so huge that riders are spread out and rarely interfere with "flow". With two more months left in the season, come see what all the fuss is about.

Fernie is the spot for Downhill Mountain Biking

Everything you love about Summer is available in Fernie, British Columbia. Summer is short here in the land of Deep Snow (for those skiers) but it is sweet in the Elk Valley. We made a trip here specifically for the epic mountain biking...many go to Fernie for the cross country mountain biking trails but what really rocks here is some of the best downhill mountain biking at Fernie Alpine Resort. We found a great variety of trails from mild to scary...well some very technical riding for sure! What I liked is that my kids are just getting into the sport and there were fantastic intro trails that had nice berms and good-lines to make it easy to get used to the speed and excitement of downhill mountain biking. With over 37 trails we enjoyed a solid week of riding! we also mixed in some great hiking and did the Ridge traverse on the Lizard Headwall- don't miss this one if you like views and pure natural scenery!

The longest lift-accessed vertical Bike Park in Canada is starting the 2009 season on June 12. Kicking Horse Bike Park at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has been going through extensive trail renovations and improvements for the last two years. 2009 promises to be the best season ever. A wicked workout on one of Williams Lake's most popular mountain bike trails.  Pushing the pedals hard up the "Jimmy Fox Uphill Grind", working up a good "lather" up this popular mountain bike trail in "The Puddle".  Jimmy Fox leads to great flowing downhills like "Mitch's Brew" and "Aflo".  Check it out !!

As a newcomer to mountain biking this past summer, I was blown away with the wicked network of trails right in the hills surrounding Williams Lake. There are trails for every level of rider - sweet flowing single track, awesome uphill grinds, crazy downhill descents, and great cross country options. This short video was done on a great treal called "Hillbilly". Check it out !!!

I got a little adventurous at the suggestion of a local.  I travelled to Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops and gave downhill mountain biking a try.  The adrenaline was pumping, the view was spectacular and it was a GREAT time!

I headed up to Whistler to meet some friends and before I knew it I was ripping down the mountain on a downhill bike. Hanging on for dear life, I tried to keep up with the crew. After that experience, I'm pretty sure I'm already addicted to the sport!

Whistler Mountain Bike Park celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and offers over 250 kms of trails for all levels of riders. You got to check it out.

This week I visited Williams Lake to meet with Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism. Steve from the office was kind enough to take me on one of the many trails around Williams Lake. My first time doing any serious mountain biking... it was great fun.
