I absolutely LOVE wine touring in the Okanagan Valley. So far I've probably been to over 25 wineries in the region and if you enjoy wine paired with stunning scenery, the experience is not to be missed!
Some of my favorites include Grey Monk, Mission Hill, Quail's Gate, Elephant Island, Red Rooster, Laughing Stock... down to Burrowing Owl and finally Nk'Mip in Osoyoos. And I could go on...
It was really interesting to see how the landscape and geography changes as you wind through the valley from rolling hills to a desert-like climate. Each area just as beautiful as the next.
I've gone back several times over the past couple years and I plan to make it a long standing tradition with my friends.

A trip to the Southern Okanagan this August long weekend resulted in the discovery of a new (to me anyway) winery. Burrowing Owl will always be a classic and one of my all time favourites - the wine is consistently spectacular and the winery top class but a new kid on the block has the potential to add to my 'must stop list'.
Open only a year to the public although making wine since 2005, Le Vieux Pin positions themselves as making wine in the french tradition but with the latest equipment.
A wonderful welcome along a farm path alive with lavender and organic apples (the owner offers both for free picking!) , the winery also has a bocci court and pleasant patio.
Once inside, its the wine that is the star. On this visit we were offered by some very knowledgable and gracious staff, the 2007 Vaila Pinot Noir Rose - nectar of the gods was the description that came to my tongue and my rather uneducated but very happy palette. After quickly snapping up a bottle to purchase, we found out its an award winner scoring 97 points! And a very cool label to boot! Check out Le Vieux next time you are in Oliver - they say tastings by appointment but if the Open sign is out - go in - you won't be dissapointed!!!

Just back from the Okanagan. We had a great time touring around and had one of those idyllic lunches by the lake. The weather which had not been that great, warmed up and we found the patio at Lake Breeze winery (Naramata) just at the right time.
The lunch was excellent and the suggested wine pairings went very well. Our server was able to tell us about the food when we asked if it was local. Sadly not everything was!
Highly recommend a visit.
Warmly,
Frank

Hey there,
Just got back from a trip to the Okanagan, a trip taken expressly for the wine, but enjoyed lots of the other attractions too.
The one thing I noticed is that all the best & most interesting wineries are not listed on your HelloBC.com site. Is this site not government funded? If so why is it that so few of the smaller wineries are not listed here? Is the price too high?
I would like to point out that those visitors who are planning a cellar stocking trip like we were need to do a lot more homework than this site.
Attention Wine Lovers!! Be sure to visit our favorites too! Golden Beaver Winery - their motto is Fun Name FINE Wine... and it's true - don't let the name dissuade you! Go in and ask how they came up with it! The wine will be worth it!
Also worth a stop Oliver Twist and Twisted Tree!
CHEERS!!

I visited the
Okanagan valley with my sister and my Dad for the weekend for some wine tasting at the local
wineries. It was spring and a lot of the fruit trees were in full bloom, creating wonderful landscapes. One winery on a list of "must visits" was called "Dirty Laundry" in
Summerland. We were intrigued because of the unusual name.
The friendly wine expert who assisted us with our tasting told us that the winery was named after a dry cleaning business that operated in town a long time ago. It turns our that the owner operated some other business as well. Above his dry cleaning business was an illegal casino and brothel. His dry cleaning business quickly became known as "Dirty Laundry".
The winery has adopted the name and included some cheeky quotes from famous people on one of its bottles including “It's not true I had nothing on, I had the radio on.” by Marilyn Monroe.
The wine tasted great by the way...

Kettly Valley Winery came recommended by a friend. I toured the
Naramata, famous for it's wines and wineries, just east of Penticton. The winery was located close to the Okanagan Lake down a hill. A picture perfect location. A lovely young woman assisted us in our wine tasting. We tried 3 or 4 wines and decided the Pinot Gris was our favourite so I bought a bottle before moving on to our next stop.

A great time to visit the Okanogan valley and miss all the crowds is early October. We were holidaying with or motorhome and made many stops along the way, touring the valley from Osoyoos, Oliver, Penticton, Summerland, Peachland, Kelowna, and Vernon, taste testing as many different wines as we could along the way. The crowds were small, and most campgrounds that were open were almost deserted. We sat on the shores of Lake Osoyoos, and Lake Okanogan, sipping wine and just relaxing, while enjoying the view.
