Ashya Frederick fishing the lower St Mary's river in early September. The water was warm and the sun shining on a typical summer day. The St Mary's river is a very fisherman friendly river that continues to produce great fly fishing every year. The best way to get the full experience is to float down one of the many sections of river. The mountian range called the Steeples is in the back ground all day long.

This is my brother Jim with another Cutt Throat he caught while visiting here last summer. After five days of fishing the Canadian Rockies he commited to returning every year. What a great trip our family had. Traditional late summer flies and technics were the order of the day and produced several large fish for everyone on our first annual family fishing trip.

This is a photo of my wife Susan and just another big fish she landed this summer. We both caught a lot of fish that day but this was the troply we talked about on the way home. We did finally get a good photo of her smiling while holding the fish just before the live release. When fishing these high country streams you have to be prepared for wild fat fish that just don't want to be handled. This is why we don't use a net so we can get them back into the water as fast as we can.

This is my son Jason with a large West slope cutt throat trout caught this past summer. Just a few days before I was walking through a part of the river and noticed a big fish swimm away as I came upon him. So when Jason and I came to the same spot a few days later I told him the story and suggested that he try to catch him before we waded into that portion of the stream. He did not think it was a likely spot but I insisted that he give it a try. Needles to say he won't second guess ole dad again.

I live here and fish these waters every year. After a better than normal season this past summer I wanted to share some images with everyone. These fish and the surrounding mountain vistas are all part of high country fishing in the Canadian Rockies near Cranbrook B.C.. The scenery may not change but the fishing only gets batter as time goes on. New fishing practices and basic common conservation efforts has insured continued great fishing for years to come. I hope you enjoy the photos.

The Peace Country of Northern BC shares a special place in the hearts of many. This country boasts nature's delights: plentiful fields, snow capped mountains, rolling hills, lush forests and sparkling lakes—it is no wonder that this often chilly region is warmly regarded as an excellent travel destination. Hidden in the Peace Country are many unbeatable resorts. One of these resorts is the Williston Lake Resort. Whether you are looking for adventure, quality family time or relaxation, the Williston Lake Resort is the place to vacation. Situated outside of Hudson’s Hope, the Williston Lake Resort is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains on the shore of the breathtaking Williston Lake. The Williston Lodge was built in the traditional log cabin style, with each of its logs hewn by hand for a beautifully seamless fit. The lodge is a beautiful work of art that everyone can enjoy and appreciate.
My name is Erin, and recently my co-workers and I got the chance to visit the Williston Lake lodge. As soon as I walked in the door, I loved it! It’s incredibly beautiful and welcoming. The staff was very friendly and we definitely enjoyed our stay! One of my favorite things about the lodge was the sun-drenched balcony that is perfect for relaxing on. It felt like we were on a private island somewhere scenic. The view from the lodge overlooks the lake and it is wonderful.
The location of the Williston Lake Resort is terrific for enjoying activities of both the mountains and the lake. Williston Lake is the largest reservoir in Canada, making the lodge an outstanding stay for the fishing enthusiast. Not only can the summer guest enjoy fishing, there is also hiking, horseback riding, ATV tours and guided wilderness watching. Our guide also told us that it is a good destination for winter travel as well, and there’s tons of fresh powder to ride all winter long. During the winter season there is also snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross-country skiing and wildlife observation. The amount of activities makes for days of family fun, group adventures and individual recreation. Although my group didn’t participate in all the activities, it was a great place to spend an afternoon. Recreation and relaxation go hand in hand at the Williston Lake Resort, as guests can enjoy the first class food in an intimate environment. Campfires are a common way to wind down after a day at the lodge and are enjoyable for all guests. Not only will the guest enjoy the activities, they will enjoy and appreciate the lodge itself. The Williston Lodge features exquisite décor and charming touches of warmth. Easily becoming the traveler’s home away from home, the Williston Lodge leaves every visitor with the yearning for more. I loved it so much I intend to go back for a second visit and bring my family. The resort is a perfect place to get away and do camping activities while not actually not having to camp.

A short one hour helicopter ride from Vancouver Airport and I was dropping into the wilderness of Sonora Island (off the coast of British Columbia, near Campbell River) and the luxury of Sonora Resort . The resort itself was impressive, but what I was more surprised at were all the things to see and do during my stay. Like a huge playground for the wildlife - eagles, seals, killer whales, dolphins and salmon to name a few! Salmon fishing is the reason most people stop by this remote part of BC and I caught the fish to prove it. 28.5 pounds to be exact (see attached photo!).
Be sure to stay at least 3 nights, 4 if you can. It’s definitely worth it!
