Silver Star Mountain Resort Geography

Silver Star Mountain Resort is located on Silver Star Mountain in the Okanagan Highlands, between the Coast Mountains and the Rockies. It is the highest peak within a 50km/31mi radius. From the summit, the views take in the Okanagan Valley, Terrace Mountain on the Thompson Plateau, the Monashee Mountains and, on a clear day, the Selkirks. It lies 22km/12mi northeast of Vernon, the largest city in the north Okanagan Valley.

Champagne Powder

Sheltered from moisture-laden Pacific air by the Coast Mountains, Silver Star gets an average of 700cm/23ft of snow each year. But this snow is dry and fluffy – the famous champagne powder – completely different from snow at resorts closer to the ocean like Whistler Blackcomb.

Accolades for Silver Star

Ski conditions have repeatedly won Silver Star Mountain Resort "Best Powder" accolades from Ski Canada Magazine, which has also awarded Silver Star "Best Weather" honours. The Engleman spruce and subalpine fir forest has been carefully thinned to create a mix of wide-open runs and glades.

Silver Star Climate

The 115 runs generally enjoy a southerly exposure, providing maximum light and warmth. Because of the elevation, 1609m/5280 ft at the village and 1915m/6280ft at the summit, temperatures are generally several degrees cooler than in the valley. At Vernon highs average -1.6°C/29°F in January and 26°C/79°F in July. Skiable snow conditions last from late November to mid-April, while the resort is open in summer from late June to early September.
