Weather and ClimateKimberley is noted for its elevation and ranks itself among Canada's highest cities – it has an elevation of 1,110 m/3,643 ft and receives an impressive 500 cm/200 inches of snowfall in the winter, making it a popular ski, snowboard and winter activities destination. Boasting 2,125 hours of sunshine per year, the area's year-round recreational opportunities abound. Average annual precipitation is 452 mm/18 in with an average annual rainfall of 265 mm/10 in. Temperatures vary throughout the year from January's average of -7.5°C/19°F to July's average of 26°C/78°F.
Kimberley's Nature and Parks Kimberley is part of the Crown of the Continent Region, a geotourism partnership with National Geographic and allied organizations to preserve and sustain the geographic character and heritage that includes southeastern British Columbia, Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park in southwestern Alberta, and northwestern Montana.
Kimberley Nature Park is Canada's largest municipal park at 800 hectares/1,800 acres and is located within city boundaries. With an extensive trail network for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing, the varied terrain and diverse ecosystem provides endless activity options. Trails range from easy to difficult. A basic Trail Guide can be purchased for a nominal fee at the Visitor Centre as a starting point, but note that the guide is not enormously detailed or totally accurate.
There are numerous provincial parks in the area, all within close proximity to townsite, and include Premier Lake, Whiteswan Lake, Top of the World, Wasa Lake and Purcell Wilderness Conservancy. The area also has two undeveloped mineral hot springs a short drive away along Skookumchuk Creek and Lussier River.
