Terrace Dining

Best Western Lounge Restaurant - Sarah Artis
Best Western Lounge Restaurant, Sarah Artis photo
Terrace has about 50 restaurants, all with different flavours and atmospheres.

Dining options in town include west-coast style and ethnic restaurants, lunch diners, pubs, sports bar and pizza chains, various fast-food joints, mid-size family restaurants, delis and several coffee houses. Four or so of the bigger hotels also feature restaurants.

The majority of Terrace's eateries, except for a few which dot Highway 16 at the west end of town, are in the city's central core. A couple places in town are upscale and the rest are casual.

Ethnic Eats

The town's most renowned dinner restaurant is Haryana's, famous for incredibly tasty and authentic Indian food that takes more than an hour, usually longer, to arrive at the table. The food is well worth the wait! Haryana's, however, is family-owned and sometimes closes for months at a time – always amidst rumours the closure is permanent.

Other ethnic foods in town include Chinese, Greek, French and German. Some of the local coffee shops also sell sushi, and Don's Diegos, a mid to upscale restaurant in town, is classified as Mexican. It serves tasty homemade salsa and chips before every meal. Yet the restaurant is as popular for its succulent desserts, quiches and seafood plates as it is for its burritos.

Casual Diners

Popular with the lunch crowd are two smallish diners. The family-owned Anka's Fresh Food & Dessert Café is on located on the Southside of town while the Starfish Bistro – with its affordable sandwich, daily soup and drink special – is closer to the downtown core.

Bert's Delicatessen is another Terrace gem that has been around more than 40 years. The deli, located opposite the library, packs its sandwiches with so much meat that many people halve it and save the rest for later.

Markets

Farmers Market - Sarah ArtisIn the summer, tasty food is for sale at the local Farmers Market on Saturdays from May to October, right by the central George Little Park. The grilled meat sticks at the Phillipino kiosk are a favourite.
