Rossland Dining

Old Firehall Restaurant - Marlene Chabot
Old Firehall Restaurant, Marlene Chabot photo
For a small community of 3,500 residents, Rossland has a decent selection of eateries. The city prides itself on its locally owned and family-run businesses. Light snacks and hearty fare abound at the local coffee shops, but when the snow flies and skiers arrive, the town becomes a hotbed of activity, so reservations for bistros and restaurants are recommended.

Cafés and Casual Pubs

Great coffee and great company is easy to find in Rossland. Grab a cup of java, a bite to eat, or a sweet or savoury treat at one of the many casual spots. A few to try include Clansey's Cappuccino, Café Books West, The Grind, Rossland Coffee and Tea Company, Rush Lounge Café, or the Sunshine Café. The Clubhouse restaurant at the Redstone Golf Resort overlooks the links and has a licensed outdoor patio.

Or check in at Rossland's oldest pub and find out how the pub at the Flying Steamshovel Hotel got its unique name. Originally called the Orwell Hotel and opened in 1897, the Flying Steamshovel may well be a good place to chat up the locals, gain insider Rossland information, as well as have a good meal and a pint.

Restaurants and Finer Dining

The Garage is a family steak and rib house, Misty Mountain Pizza will satisfy that take-out pizza craving, and the Village Restaurant has Chinese and Western food with a weekend smorgasbord.

The Hot Stove Lounge & Bistro (formerly Latitude 49 Restaurant) is conveniently located in the Prestige Mountain Resort and Conference Centre and also offers live music events.

Besides the Hot Stove at the Prestige, The Old Fire Hall Wine & Jazz Bar is located within a beautifully renovated historic building offering live music, local artworks, a fine dining menu and more than 40 varieties of BC wine by the glass.

Ethnic and Unique Eats

Starving after a day on the slopes? Fill up with Mediterranean and Italian fare (including home made pastas) at Gabriella's Apres Ski Restaurant on Mountain View Road. Try her "Trip for Two" six-course meal focused around Gabriella's own favourite Italian dishes.

Idgie's Fine Food on 2nd Ave, is best for casual fine dining and is set in a unique heritage building, while Gypsy at Red, (as in, Red Mountain), offers a fusion of Mediterranean and Asian platters.

If stomachs are growling for authentic Mexican, check out Mazatlan. Don't be fooled by its unusual location (it's on Nancy Green Highway by a gas station) – Mazatlan serves up excellent margaritas and Mexican food. Drift Izakaya is a well-known local Japanese Izakaya (grill), and fans of the fondue will find much to savour at Le Petit Fromage. Stir up an appetite and ski beneath the stars on a guided 2km/1.24mi cross-country trail to a remote cabin, then dip in to a fondue by candlelight and settle in by wood-burning stove.
