Port Hardy Dining

Apart from its fresh, smoked and candied salmon, Port Hardy also has a good selection of casual, family oriented restaurants, along with a handful of waterfront pubs, coffeeshops, and fast-food outlets. The mood is relaxed, the prices reasonable, and the service small-town friendly and hospitable.

Pub Grub

The Airport Inn's Restaurant & Pub offers first-rate Cantonese food in the evenings plus a menu of big breakfast platters. Glen Lyon Restaurant & Pub (6435 Hardy Bay Road) has good, rib-sticking meals and casual oceanview dining. Quarterdeck Pubstyle Restaurant (6555 Hardy Bay Road) serves upscale pub grub ranging from calamari and oyster burgers to ginger-infused duck breast. Top pick here: Fresh halibut and chips. Hikers fresh from Cape Scott can refresh and feed themselves at The Scarlet Ibis (Holberg) a cozy, no-fuss Holberg restaurant/pub near the park's turnoff.

Café Guido

Café Guido (7135 Market Street) serves barista drinks plus superb homemade scones, cheesecake and other baked goods. The café is the heart of a small  complex that also features The Book Nook (new and used titles) and the  West Coast Community Art Shop (representing dozens of north island artists).

Ethnic Restaurants

Alexandro's Restaurant (9040 Granville Street in the Port Hardy Inn) features excellent Mediterranean fare in a relaxed white-tablecloth setting. Toudai Sushi (7370 Market Street) has good sushi and plenty of window seats with prime ocean views.

Local Haunts

Malone's Oceanside Bistro (the name's a little misleading given that Malone's is in North Island Mall above town) is a favorite with locals. Menu choices include a unique oven-baked club sandwich, a fish-of-the-day burger, and a variety of seafood entrees. The Sporty Bar & Grill (7800 Market Street) is a lively local hangout with  multiple TV monitors tuned to the latest sports action. Wings are a favorite here along with the fish tacos, cedar-plank salmon, and specialty pizzas.
