Good food is not hard to find in Fernie. There are interesting places to eat in the downtown core and the Fernie Alpine Resort, but you don't even have to leave Highway 3 to find a sensational meal.

Eateries on the Strip

Along with the fast food joints on the strip, are little gems like the Curry Bowl, which serves up spicy curries from a variety of ethnic origins. Be prepared for some extreme taste sensations with the Madras Curry, and ask for some cucumber slices if things start to get too hot. Reservations are absolutely essential for this intimate little restaurant on 7th Ave, just north of 9th St.

A couple of blocks further south, also on the western side of the strip, Yamagoya Sushi prepares excellent Japanese food and is extremely popular with locals and visitors alike.

Across the street, Max's at Park Place Lodge does a delicious prime rib.

Dining Downtown

Fernie fine dining starts with the Old Elevator Restaurant at 291 1st Ave. Housed in a century old building that was originally a grain feed store, the restaurant offers uncomplicated, well-prepared main courses and yummy desserts. Reservations are recommended.

The Brick House Bar and Grill is on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 4th Street. In a pub-like atmosphere, good food is mixed with good cheer and, from time to time, live music.

For an interesting breakfast, check out the Blue Toque at the Arts Station at 601 1st Ave. Coffee shops are always great for taking the pulse of a community, albeit accelerated by caffeine.  Check out Freshies at 561 2nd Ave.

Fernie Alpine Resort

Lizard Creek Lodge Dining, Fernie Alpine Resort - Lizard Creek Lodge Since 1962, the Griz Bar has been entertaining skiers with pub style food and tapas. During the season, there's live music on Saturday evening and on weekend afternoons.

The dining room at the four-star Lizard Creek Lodge will appeal to more sophisticated tastes.
