Chilliwack has a reasonably diverse selection of quality restaurants, and prices are affordable. Visitors can dine everywhere from bakeries and sandwich shops to steak houses and tea rooms.Fast-food and franchise family restaurants, including popular burger and pizza joints, are clustered near the Trans-Canada Highway, as well as near Vedder Cross, which lies south of the highway. Ethnic RestaurantsFor more upscale or ethnic dining, head for the Yale Road district in downtown Chilliwack. Some notable eateries include Bravo (46244 Yale Rd.), whose dinner menu (Wed-Sat) features West Coast cuisine like wild salmon filet and rack of lamb, plus 250 wines; and Evangeline's (9381 Mill Rd.), which specializes in contemporary soul food such as jambalaya and pulled pork. Other area restaurants dish up German, Greek, Japanese and Indian food.
Unique Dining Experiences Since this rural community has more than 900 farms, independent restaurants often use local, seasonal, and organic ingredients. For instance, Bravo has a rooftop herb garden. An interesting oddity for dessert-lovers is found at the Chilliwack Municipal Airport (46244 Airport Rd.). The airport coffee shop, open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., serves a delicious variety of homemade fruit pies, with flavours like Dutch apple, rhubarb crunch, and blueberry-peach. Private plane owners are known to fly to Chilliwack specifically to sample the pies.
