Castlegar offers some tasty ethnic specialties and at least a dozen other reasonably priced restaurants serving up good food. Also, for visitors in a hurry, there's the usual selection of fast food joints on Castlegar's commercial strip.
Ethnic Cuisine At Weezie's Borscht Hut the name says it all: The hot ticket item is traditional Doukhobor cabbage-based borscht. The restaurant has room for just four or five tables and take away is also available. Weezie's is at 2816 Columbia Avenue, at the south end of town. A few blocks closer to downtown, Cuisine of India offers excellent food complemented by the aroma of exotic spices. The Greek Oven, at 400 Columbia Avenue, features traditional and modern Greek dishes.
Affordable Eats Located next to the Castlegar Super 8 Hotel, the Black Rooster Classic Bar and Grill is a popular new dining spot. The menu offers a good variety – so much so, it's tough to decide just what to eat. But there are worse problems in life. The Common Grounds Café is usually packed with locals. Find it at the corner of 18th and Columbia Avenue, near the highway overpass. It's unusual to find a restaurant in any airport that serves up wholesome homemade food, but Pie in the Sky does just that with a menu that reflects local traditions.
