The Hills Health and Guest Ranch Dining Room, Agnus McVee photo
100 Mile House offers a limited number of restaurants (fine dining or otherwise), though there are certainly places to stop in at for a good bite to eat. Many franchise chains are represented in town including Tim Hortons (known in Canada for fresh coffee and doughnuts), Dairy Queen, and KFC, and there are several located on Highway 97 as it passes through town. Cafés and Restaurants On the 99 Mile Hill, as the highway descends into 100 Mile House from the south is El Caballo, a rustic-looking restaurant offering a unique cross of excellent German and Mexican cuisine, a menu the reflects the owners' heritage. On Birch Avenue are several family restaurants and a delightful coffee house and bistro with free wireless Internet. Stop here for a meal and explore the shops and boutiques in the downtown core. Further up Highway 97 at the north end of town is a “strip mall” (a line of shops and restaurants) where yet more fast-food and pizza options can be found. Dining at Guest Ranches and Resorts The area's resorts and Guest Ranches have good private dining rooms or public restaurants, and many have self-catering/kitchenettes in guest cabins. An in-room or lakeside picnic is easy to put together as the supermarkets on Highway 97 have excellent deli sections stocked with ready made, often hot, meals and fresh bakery items.Check the menus at the various dining rooms – several offer rich buffalo meat! For a map of the town and a list of local dining spots, stop in at the 100 Mile House Visitor Center.
