Sooke Accommodations

Sooke draws short and long-term guests to a select group of lodgings, many of which are B&Bs. Most accommodations here are dotted along the West Coast Road, while some can be found in nearby Port Renfrew.

Bed & Breakfasts

Bed and breakfasts located in private homes blanket the region from Saseenos adjacent to the Sooke Basin to the French Beach/Shirley area in the west. A Point of View Oceanside B&B (offering an eagle's eye perspective on the ocean from Otter Point, just west of Sooke), Salty Towers Oceanfront Retreat (with its beautiful outlook over Whiffin Spit) and Malahat Farm Bed & Breakfast (a 19th-Century heritage farm with resident llamas, dogs, cats, chickens and cows) are just a few of the excellent B&Bs here.

Vacation Rentals & Lodges

A selection of top-drawer Sooke-area oceanfront homes and luxury cottages are available for short and long-term rental. Pets are allowed at some of these properties.

Ideal for outings to Botanical Beach and before/after treks on the West Coast Trail, the Soule Creek Lodge is set on an idyllic 160 acre/65ha property and offers a mix of cabins, yurts and lodge accommodations.

Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina

Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina is the largest accommodation in the area, featuring a series of luxury units with hot tubs on the West Coast Road just prior to the Whiffin Spit turnoff. Guests get prime access to an 90-slip private marina, a starting point for sports fishing expeditions, harbour tours or zodiac ecotours/whale-watching adventures with the on-site Sooke Coastal Explorations. The resort also hosts the annual Vancouver Island Salmon Classic derby where anglers can win up to $175,000.

Sooke Harbour House

Sinclair and Frederique Philip have almost singlehandedly given Sooke an international reputation. Their Whiffin Spit landmark, the Sooke Harbour House, is a perennial award-winner as one of North America's top small hotels and has been cited as "one of the top three inns in the world" by Condé Nast Traveller magazine. Exquisite is the word for everything here: the views, the edible gardens, the restaurant, the art and the delightful oceanview rooms. Non-guests are invited to drop in, tour the grounds and dawdle in the hallways of what is effectively the region's finest art gallery.

Point-No-Point Resort

Point-No-Point Resort, on the rugged coast between French Beach and Jordan River, boasts a colourful history, 25 character cabins (some with private hot tubs, others great for families), and a network of guest-only trails. The restaurant/tea room is a favorite for guests and daytrippers alike.

Camping

Sooke River Flats Campground (2259 Phillips Road) next to the salmon-spawning river of the same name offers full-service R/V and tent sites. French Beach Provincial Park has vehicle-accessible camping beside the ocean. Further along the West Coast Road, China Beach's campsites (open mid-May to mid-September) offer a wilder taste of the west coast, albeit a relatively civilized one compared to the remote beach and forest wilderness sites scattered along the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail. Western Forest Products runs a campground favored by surfers on the rocky beach at Jordan River. In Port Renfrew, hikers bound for the West Coast Trail can set up tents at a beachfront campground operated by the Pacheedaht First Nation.
