Port Alberni Accommodations

Hospitality Inn, Alberni Valley Chamber of CommerceAn affordable range of hotels, motels, B&Bs, and campgrounds greet overnight visitors to Port Alberni. Overall, average prices here are considerably less expensive than those in neighboring resort towns on Vancouver Island – all of which are easy daytrip destinations from Port Alberni.

Hotels and Motels

The Best Western Barclay Hotel and the Hospitality Inn both have updated rooms and good onsite restaurants. The former (at the corner of Rogers and Stamp Avenue) is a newly renovated four-story property not far from the water. The latter is located on the motel strip lining Redford Street (home to a handful of decent, low-price motels such as the A-1 Alberni Inn).

Fishing Lodges

Just outside town on Sprout Lake is the West Bay Hotel & Resort. Fishing expeditions along the Alberni Inlet to Bamfield often involve overnights at the Tyee Resort or Imperial Eagle Lodge.

Bed & Breakfasts

Cedarwood Lodge, Alberni Valley Chamber of CommerceA score of B&Bs operate in the Alberni Valley. Cedar Wood Lodge (5895 River Road) offers fishing packages and conference facilities. Both it and the Hummingbird Guesthouse (5769 River Road) are on the edge of the swimmable Somass River.

Downtown alternatives include By the Quay B&B (the pink house at 2959 Kingsway Avenue not far from the Rollin Arts Centre) and the Bluebird Motel (3755 3rd Avenue within a 20-minute walk of the Harbour Quay). The Ark Resort is a floating B&B at the east end of Great Central Lake and a good starting point for six-hour treks to Della Falls.

Hostel & Camping

On the downtown waterfront, the Fat Salmon Backpackers Hostel (3250 3rd Avenue) is a funky and comfortable refuge for travellers. It’s open from May to the end of September. Some 85 vehicle-accessible campsites can be found in the Stamp River and Sproat Lake Provincial Parks. A variety of private campgrounds also welcome tenters and R/V traffic.

Check with the Port Alberni Visitor Centre (2533 Port Alberni Highway at east edge of town) for more information about accommodation options.
