Nelson Accommodations

Downtown Nelson Hotel - Tourism BCCatering to a wide range of visitors, Nelson's accommodation options span everything from a bunk in a backpacker hostel to a king-sized and luxurious waterfront suite. There are several quality hotels including the Best Western Baker Street Inn and the Prestige Lakeview Inn in and around the downtown core. The Prestige Lakeside Resort & Convention Centre, is resort hotel on the lake that offers waterfront-facing rooms, and has a pool, spa, restaurant and café. Less expensive motels can be found on the outskirts of town.

The Hume Hotel

The centrepiece of Nelson's accommodation is the venerable Hume Hotel, which has been standing on the corner of Ward and Vernon Streets for more than a century. Fred Hume, the first mayor of Nelson, this four-storey hotel is a popular meeting place, with the Library Lounge offering perhaps the most comfortable atmosphere in town. Since the Hume also houses a busy pub and a popular nightclub on its lower levels, try for a room on one of the upper floors.

B&Bs

There are more than 20 bed and breakfast properties in the area, located both in town and beyond the city limits. In town, the Dandelion Inn is an unpretentious heritage home on Carbonate Street just a few blocks up the hill from downtown. The Cloudside Inn is a larger property in a great location on Victoria Street just across from the Capitol Theatre. Across the bridge and a 15 minute drive from Nelson, the Emerald Lakes Bed & Breakfast Inn is a modern, architect-designed lakefront mansion, complete with indoor pool, luxurious accommodation and extravagant breakfasts.

Backpacker Hostels

There are backpacker hostels on Baker Street (the Dancing Bear Inn and Backcountry Hostel) and one on Vernon Street (the White House Backpacker Lodge). Each offer basic dormitory style accommodation, as well as semi- and private rooms, and are busy winter and summer. Booking ahead is recommended.

Camping

Camping in Kokanee Creek Provincial Park - Tourism BC/Albert NormandinCamping is available at the "City Tourist Park", where being conveniently close to downtown also involves being close to your neighbouring campers. Although surrounded by trees, the camping area is a relatively small space shared by recreational vehicles and tents.

Looking for a little more space, as well as a beach and playground? Try the family-friendly Kokanee Creek Provincial Park, 19km/12mi east of Nelson. There are two campgrounds there, with a total of 168 sites for campers and RVs. In July and August, reservations are essential for this very popular destination.
