Kitimat Accommodations
Several hotels and motels, popular with the fishing crowd, are located in the heart of downtown, while a few bed and breakfasts, lodges, marinas with moorage for rent, and some campgrounds are scattered throughout more residential neighbourhoods and remote areas of Kitimat.
Hotels and Motels
For convenient location, stay in one of five or so hotels or motels in Kitimat's downtown centre, close to the mall, shops, and restaurants.
B&Bs
For a more charming and intimate atmosphere choose one of the area's bed and breakfasts, or lodges. These accommodations are a little pricier and not as central, but generally have fewer rooms and are much more cozy and private.
While most of the bed and breakfasts and lodges include general amenities, such as wireless internet, each place offers unique charm and distinct features, including Jacuzzis, extra-large rooms or freezers for those prized catches from river or ocean fishing expeditions.
Lodges
Two of the more desirable places to stay in Kitimat are Minette Bay Lodge and Tookus Inn Lodge. Minette Bay is a large, charming manor-type house right on the ocean. The lodge sits on 30ha/75ac of rich forest, filled with trails and wildlife. Relax on the front deck, play chess with the almost life size pieces on the lawn, or go for a paddle in one of the lodge's kayaks. The owners, an English couple, can arrange any kind of tour of the area, such as fishing or flight seeing. Tookus Inn Lodge is a floating lodge that focuses on fishing expeditions. It boasts guests roughing it in style.
Marinas
Three marinas in the area offer moorage: MK Bay, Moon Bay, and Minette Bay. All are, at most, a 15-minute drive from town. Amenities and reservations policies differ at each. A two-bedroom floating unit at Moon By Marina is also available for rent.
Camping
Campers have two main grounds to choose from. Radley Park, located on the Kitimat River just after the city centre after crossing the bridge, is a large space with 48 sites. Most are fit with electricity for RVs and the campsite has flush toilets.
Hirsh Creek Campground is more popular for self-sufficient tenters. It has eight sites so it's a little quieter, but the area is also popular with picnickers in the daytime. To get there, turn west off Highway 37, before Hirsch Creek. The site is located a little outside of town; the turnoff is before the Kitimat Visitor Centre. Jed's Stump Trailer Park and a couple other lodges in town also accommodate RVs.
Ask for accommodation suggestions at the Kitimat Visitor Centre, located on the east side of Highway 37 just before reaching town.
