Gibsons Accommodations
Like elsewhere on the Sunshine Coast, Gibsons is best-known for its top-notch waterfront bed and breakfasts. This quaint oceanside community also has a good selection of resorts, hotels, motels, and campsites.
Bed and Breakfasts
Looking for a romantic getaway or a quiet weekend retreat? Gibsons has close to 25 B&Bs and cottages, regulated by the Sunshine Coast Bed & Breakfast, Cottage Owners Association to ensure high-quality accommodations.
Stonehurst Heritage B&B, overlooking the Gibsons marina, occupies a 1912 house with two cozy vintage suites, hardwood floors, and clawfoot bathtubs, plus an organic garden with apple trees and chickens. Bonniebrook Lodge is among the oldest properties on the Sunshine Coast, and recently underwent a $1-million renovation. It offers romantic yet homey suites, waterfront views, and a West Coast-focused restaurant with a 1,200-bottle wine cellar and Michelin-rated chef.
Resorts
Several high-end Sunshine Coast resorts are located north of Gibsons along Highway 101, each catering to a different clientele. In Madeira Park, spa lovers enjoy the harbour-facing Painted Boat Resort, which offers a full-service spa in addition to organic West Coast cuisine and spacious two-bedroom suites.
In Halfmoon Bay, Rockwater Secret Cove Resort attracts wedding parties and honeymooners with its luxury tenthouse suites featuring king-sized beds and hydrotherapy tubs. The Vancouver Sun newspaper named Rockwater one of the five best BC getaways in 2008. Further north in Egmont, West Coast Wilderness Lodge draws adventurers with customized kayaking, diving, and bear-watching packages.
Up the Creek Hostel
A quirky option for backpackers is the Up the Creek B&B-style hostel in nearby Roberts Creek. It attracts international visitors, many of whom arrive by bike or public transportation. A communal kitchen, hand-built dorm beds, and acoustic guitars in the living room typify the laidback vibe.
Camping
Campers have plenty of options just north of Gibsons. Porpoise Bay Provincial Park features a spacious beach, an adventure playground, hiking trails, and modern washroom facilities. There are 24 sites at Roberts Creek Provincial Park to the south and a nice picnic area. Two private campgrounds are also available in Sechelt, and more public camping is available further north in Halfmoon Bay (Smugglers Cove Provincial Park), Pender Harbour (Katherine Lake), and Egmont (Klein Lake).
