Cranbrook Accommodations
Cranbrook has almost 1000 hotel rooms, a small number of in-town B&Bs, and a broad selection of camping options. Hotels are busiest in July and August, but can be fully booked at other times of the year - especially when there is a hockey tournament or other sports event.
Chain Hotels in Cranbrook
In town, most major chains are represented, including the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resortand Convention Centre , Best Western Cranbrook Hotel, Sandman Inn Cranbrook, Days Inn Cranbrook and Super 8 Cranbrook.
The St Eugene Resort
St Eugene Resort is a few minutes drive north of town. An initiative of the Ktanaxa First Nation, the resort is built around a former "residential school" for Aboriginal children that was funded by the Canadian Government in 1910. This mission style building has been transformed into a 125-room 4 1/2 star hotel, complete with restaurants, a casino, fitness facilities, an outdoor pool and spa, and an acclaimed 18-hole golf course. A unique feature of the resort is the display of historical and cultural artifacts in the Ktanaxa Nation Interpretive Centre, on the lower level.
CPR Bed and Breakfast
Back in town at 117-12th Ave South, the CPR B&B is a fully restored heritage home in the historic Baker Hill area. The house was built in 1900 for the Cranbrook superintendent of the Canadian Pacific Railway. More than a century later and following six years of painstaking renovations, the house has a new life as a B&B. Rose, who is originally from Newfoundland, is the quintessential host.
Camping in & around Cranbrook
For convenience, nothing beats the Mount Baker RV Park. At 1501-1st St. South, it's walking distance to downtown, but it can be a little noisy - especially in a tent. Elizabeth Lake Lodge, at the southern entrance to town, offers serviced RV sites.
Inexplicably, two commercial facilities east of town share similar names -- the Fort Steele Campground and the Fort Steele Resort and RV Park. The former is located on the west side of the Kootenay River, while the latter is across the highway from the Fort Steele Heritage Town.
Camping is also available in the following provincial parks: Jimsmith Lake, Moyie Lake, Norbery Lake and Wasa Lake.
