Clearwater Accommodations
The Clearwater area offers a diverse choice of accommodations that include motels, bed and breakfasts, guest ranches, luxury cabins, campgrounds, and RV facilities. Most places offer easy access to a wide variety of outdoor adventures, such as horseback riding, hiking, canoeing, fishing, river rafting, wildlife viewing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
Motels
Many motels are located along Highway 5, although some are found in Clearwater. The Ace Western Motel at the entrance to the Wells Gray Provincial Park corridor is one of the largest.
Guest Ranches and Lodges
Located on the edge of Wells Gray Provincial Park, along the park corridor highway that leads from Highway 5, are a series of guest ranches and lodges. Nakiska Ranch, on Trout Creek Road, 30 km/18.6mi north of Clearwater, has a large lodge and restored cedar log cabins with great views of the surrounding mountains.
The Trophy Mountain Buffalo Ranch, 20 km/12mi north of Clearwater, has a large log Guest House built from hand-axed square logs in the 1920s. The Wells Gray Guest Ranch, 25km/15.5mi from Clearwater, has accommodation ranging from a family suite in the ranch house, cabins, bunkhouses, and buildings with an old west motif.
At the Helmcken Falls Lodge, on the edge of the park 35 km/21mi north of Clearwater, an old hunting lodge serves as home base for variety of activities that include fishing, golfing, hiking, horse back riding, and sight seeing.
Camping and RVs
Wells Gray Provincial Park features both a campground and backcountry camping area.
The Clearwater Valley Resort & KOA Campground is situated by the entrance of Wells Gray Provincial Park is a motel, campground, and RV Park. Sites are designed to accommodate a variety of RVs, campers, trailers, and tents.
Many guest ranches such as Helmcken Falls Lodge and Dutch Lake Resort, offer RV facilities. There are also camping facilities and cabins at many lakes in the area and all provide easy access to the nearly 250km/155mi of hiking trails.
