Burns Lake Accommodations

Lake Cabin, Sarah ArtisBurns Lake has a wide range of accommodation – some right in town and many on nearby lakes. Several motels flank Hwy 16 throughout downtown, the Sunshine Inn being the newest of the lot. A few bed and breakfasts are also spread out through the town's residential neighbourhoods.

Wilderness Lodges

Most visitors to Burns Lake stay at wilderness lodges on the south side, or near one of the many lakes in the area, such as Francois Lake, one of the province's largest natural freshwater lakes. These lodges range from upscale to rustic. Accommodations offered depend on the particular resort. Some have tent and RV space, small cabins, and even houses for rent. Some places such as the Takysie Lake Resort include all of these options.

Some of the wilderness lodges are less than an hour's drive from town, while others are quite a bit farther. Some are fly-in only. Various resorts may also specialize in certain activities such as fishing, boating, and horseback riding. Some of the places to stay are open only during the summer while others are year-round.

To get to the south side, drive south along Hwy 35 from Burns Lake. Then take the free 20-minute ferry ride across Francois Lake. Another option, depending the destination, is to drive around either end of the lake.

Camping and RVs

RV Camping, Sarah ArtisThe municipal campground, centrally located just a couple minutes drive from downtown, has seven free tenting sites on Burns Lake. In addition, a couple private tent and RV campgrounds are in the area, a little farther away from town. Travellers who want more of a woodsy experience can also find more remote campgrounds throughout the area.

Stop by the Burns Lake Visitor Centre on the north side of Hwy 16 in downtown Burns Lake for a complete list of accommodations. The Visitor Centre also has a binder, with photos and write-ups of local places to stay, so travellers can get a better idea of what to expect.
