Alert Bay Accommodations

Nimpkish Hotel, Alert Bay - Jeff BatemanThere is a small and select group of places to overnight in Alert Bay. The selection covers the gamut from a vintage waterfront hotel and cozy collection of cabins, to comfortable B&Bs and a fully serviced campground. Reservations are recommended year-round, but are essential in the July/August high season.

The Nimpkish Hotel

The Nimpkish Hotel, a 1920s hotel located on the waterfront 1km/0.6mi east of the ferry terminal, has undergone a handsome facelift in recent years. The rooms have been given fresh, modern looks and offer a number of amenities.

B&Bs

Janet's Guesthouse (667 Fir Street) has three bedrooms in a century-old home facing the water. On The Beach (66 Fir Street) is a waterfront unit operated by the Seasmoke/Sea Orca whale-watching folk. It's a two-minute walk from the ferry dock, as is the Old Customs House and the Bunkhouse Cottage (part of the old fishing cannery). Other spots include the Kwa'lilas xa Ga'axsta'las B&B (400 Pine Street), and the Pass 'N Thyme Inn (4 Maple Road).

Alert Bay Lodge

Alert Bay Lodge - Jeff BatemanA large, fireplace-warmed common room with a huge picture window overlooking the ocean is a key selling point for this cedar-wood lodge on the southeast waterfront. Alert Bay Lodge (549 Fir Street) features updated rooms and cozy, hostel-style atmosphere for guests.

Oceanview Cabins

Big comfy chairs, fireplaces, hardwood floors and fully equipped kitchens are found in this collection of updated cabins near the Alert Bay Airstrip. Oceanview Cabins (390 Popular Road) are about 3km/1.8mi from the village centre atop a hill with commanding ocean lookouts.

Alert Bay Campground

An uphill hike or short drive takes campers to the island's only campground. Of the 20 sites here, 14 are fully serviced. Alert Bay Campground (101 Alder Street) is a great spot from which to explore the trail system and boardwalk at the adjacent Alert Bay Ecological Park.
