From pottery and paintings to aboriginal art and massive metal sculptures, experiencing the self-guided Chilliwack Artisan Tours is always memorable.

The tours include 12 suggested stops all over Chilliwack. Studios have varying hours of operation, and some prefer to receive visitors by appointment, so be sure to contact the studios in advance when planning your route.

Highlights include the brightly coloured, crystalline-glazed porcelain pottery of Holly McKeen at Greendale Pottery & Country Guest House, the diverse masks, prints, jewelry, and other native art at the Sto:lo Artisan Centre, and the awe-inspiring stainless steel sculptures of eagles and dragons (weighing upwards of 5,000lb) by Kevin Stone at Metal Animation Studio.

There are also special seasonal shows and events, like the annual three-day Chilliwack Christmas Craft Crawl (end of November).

Part 1
South of Trans-Canada Hwy

41.15 km - about 1 hours 13 min

Look for functional stoneware and crystalline glazed porcelain in a rural setting at Greendale Pottery (42245 South Sumas Rd), then head south to see two more potters' creations. Schellenberg Pottery (4450 No. 3 Rd) has contemporary designs, and Ted Driediger Pottery (41640 Yarrow Central Rd) has more than 25 years experience with home and garden stoneware, including garden lanterns, platters and teapots.

Head east to Anne's Creative Art Studio (5358 Rockwood Dr) for colourful stained glass works. Ryder Lake Lampworks (at 48750 Ryder Lake Rd, near its namesake lake) creates wood and fibre lamps and shades, and Summer Light Studio (46010 Collins Dr) is brimming with landscapes, wildlife and abstract paintings. Just north of Summer Light Studio is Artisan Gallery (7355 Vedder Rd), which has sold local artwork, gifts and souvenirs for more than 30 years.

Find handcrafted woodwork in Rosedale at Svedala Woodworking (51795 Nevin Rd), and see paintings by Evelyn Zuberbier in her home studio, where she welcomes visitors (46572 Montana Dr).

In downtown Chilliwack, admire delicate painted porcelain and watercolours at Wisteria Studio (46054 First Ave), and see a range of local artworks at Cornerstone Gallery (8810-A Young Rd). Finally, head west to Chilliwack Mountain for a visit to Brimacombe House to view watercolour and oil paintings and giftware (8349 Chelmsford Pl).
