There are plenty of U-pick fields to enjoy, from strawberries to pumpkin patches and at harvest time in particular, roads can be busy with tractors and other farm equipment. Please give them right of way.
Based on the concept of inter-related garden ecosystems, Earthwise Farm & Gardens experiential one-acre garden-farm is an active learning centre for gardening and growing produce.
In addition to more than 60 community gardens, it has several themed areas including a Native plant garden, that demonstrate concepts such as companion planting, soil management and natural pest control.
Earthwise Workshops & Tours
A hoop-house constructed from reused or recycled materials grows hot-house produce and a refurbished barn hosts workshops on sustainable gardening and farming practices. Earthwise is open daily for self-guided tours; it also organizes cycling tours around the Delta farmlands. Located at the corner of Boundary Bay Rd and 3rd Ave in South Delta.
Emma Lea Farm
Delta's oldest continuously operating farm has been in the same family since 1885 and is the place for U-pick and ready picked strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, tayberries, blackberries and black currants.
Although only open mid June to mid August, Emma Lea Farm's countryside location on Westham Island makes it a 'must-visit' location for family fun as much for its luscious berries as for its fruity ice-cream sundaes and picturesque picnic area.
Westham Island Estate Winery / Bissett Farms
Using the many different berries from its Bissett Farm operation, the elegant Westham Island Estate Winery was the first of its kind in Delta. Specializing in award-winning dessert wines that are processed on site, from field to bottle, the range of berry flavours is, well, intoxicating, and even includes an exquisite pumpkin wine.
Strawberry Festival
The winery also sells farm-made syrups, jams and gift baskets. The annual Strawberry Festival in June comes with entertainment, food and kids' crafts while the Christmas Craft Fair showcases berry gifts alongside the work of local artists. The farm is open daily, June to August; the winery is open daily, year round.
Westham Island Herb Farm
As part of Ellis Farm, another family run, heritage operation, everything at Westham Island Herb Farm has the earmark of TLC, from hand-harvested fruits, herbs and vegetables to a wide selection of seedlings to grow at home. Some are heirloom cultivars not typically stocked at common garden centres. There's also a petting barn for youngsters - bunnies, donkeys, cows, and always flowers galore.
U-Pick Pumpkins
Harvest time is a treat, especially around Halloween when the u-pick pumpkin patch is supplemented with spooky displays of almost 200 hand carved pumpkins and an imaginative, 'haunted' Quonset hot house. The farmhouse shop, which is open May until the end of October, also sells honey, jams and preserves.
Wellbrook Winery
Visiting Wellbrook Winery is like stepping back in time - first with its displays of antique farm equipment, then with its superbly restored heritage buildings that includes the Old Grainery Store. Sample delicious fruit wines and pure Bremner fruit juices produced from the farm's 55-acres and shop for unique wine accessories, foodstuffs and giftware.
Summerfest at Wellbrook Winery
Throughout the year, the winery stages various events including cooking demonstrations with local celebrity chefs, a classic car and motorcycle show and a gets-bigger-every-year Summerfest with live entertainment and traditional blueberry pie eating contest. The winery is open daily, year round.
