Clintonians know that winter is no time to hide indoors. When the sun is shining, and the deep-powder snow is glistening, in and around Clinton there is plenty of cross-country ski terrain to traverse.
Stick to one of the many groomed routes at Big Bar Ski Trails, or venture out and explore wilderness ski opportunities at nearby Lime Mountain, or other locations throughout the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast region.
Big Bar Ski Trails
Big Bar Ski Trails, located about 20 minutes north of Clinton, offers 50km/31mi of cross-country ski trails, 15km/9mi of which are groomed by the Clinton Snow Jockey Club. The runs are relatively gentle, and several loops provide just amazing views of the Marble Range. At the trailhead is a donation box, where skiers are encouraged to support Clinton Snow Jockey Club's trail maintenance program.

Big Bar Guest Ranch also has ungroomed trails that guests are welcome to explore. While some equipment is available for guest use, skiers are encouraged to bring their own gear. A number of rest shelters are located along the trails. Big Bar Ski Trails also provides great hiking in spring and summer.
Wilderness Cross-Country Skiing
Clinton welcomes wilderness skiing at Lime Mountain, west of town. Trails are un-groomed and not regularly patrolled, but worth discovering and suitable for all cross-country skiing skill levels. Clinton's locals also enjoy the many trails in and around Clinton. Ski through groves of evergreens, past frozen creeks, and stand in awe at the scenic views of towering mountains.
Practical Points
- Cross-country skiers should bring equipment, as rentals are not available.
- Wilderness skiers are advised to keep a safe distance from wildlife in the area.
- Wilderness skiers are advised to ski in pairs or groups, and to tell someone of the day's planned route (as cellular service is not available outside town).
- Dress in layers (as weather conditions can quickly change) and carry emergency supplies.
Check with the Visitor Centre for more information on cross-country ski trails in the Clinton area.
