Christina Lake is a natural resort destination with all the ingredients for family recreation. The surrounding Monashee Mountains host a multitude of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and winter sports, with natural sights like waterfalls, panoramic views and abundant wildlife. There's more natural beauty on area golf courses and the lake and other waterways attract people for swimming, kayaking and fishing. Provincial parks provide campers with yet another opportunity to get back to nature.
In summer, life at Christina Lake revolves around the water. The lake is clear and warm. Swim from a secluded sandy beach, paddle, parasail, waterski or wakeboard. Christina Creek, easily accessible by canoe or kayak, is home to various nesting birds, and fish are clearly visible in its shallow water. Paddling conditions are also good at several other creeks and on the gentle Kettle River. Anglers cast a fly or troll for trout, bass, kokanee or whitefish.
Hiking & Mountain Biking
Christina Lake's extensive trail system makes it easy to get out and explore the wilderness and local heritage. Ramble along a creek side or scale the heights to an alpine meadow; take an easy ride on the Trans Canada Trail or go for the rush and blast downhill. Christina Lake's trails are also ideal for exploration on horseback.
Natural Sights, Parks and Wildlife
Cascade Falls is a spectacular sight, just a short side trail off the Trans Canada Trail south of Christina Lake town. Watch out for abundant wildlife including deer, bears, a multitude of bird species (especially along the south shore of the lake) and kokanee salmon that turn bright red as they spawn in area creeks in autumn.
Gladstone Provincial Park at the north end of Christina Lake protects the unique Selkirk Foothills ecosystem. Don't miss the giant cedar trees that grow up to 2.4m/8ft in diameter in the old growth cedar/hemlock forest.
Arts, Culture & Heritage
Take a boat to the north end of Christina Lake and look for First Nations pictographs (rock paintings) that are visible at three sites along the shore. The Sinixt Peoples, original inhabitants of this area, were likely the artists.
Golf
Take to the links on two local golf courses, the Les Furber designed 18-hole, 6685-yard Christina Lake Golf Course and the 9-hole Cascade Par 3.
Nordic/Cross-Country Skiing
Christina Lake gets plenty snowfall in winter. Strap on the cross-country skis or snowshoes for an outing on many local trails. As well, Paulson Cross Country Ski Trails and Phoenix Cross Country Ski Club offer an extensive array of groomed trails.
Skiing & Snowboarding
Downhill skiing and snowboarding is available at Red Mountain Ski Resort to the east in Rossland or at Phoenix Ski Hill west of Grand Forks. Snowmobiling options include the Trans Canada Trail, groomed trails at Paulson Summit and deactivated logging roads, such as Fife and Santa Rosa. Colder temperatures sometimes allow for snowmobiling and ice fishing on the lake.
Festivals and Events
Christina Lake is a small community that's big on spirit. It hosts a number of annual events including the Fishing Derby in May, KidSprint Triathlon in June, Sandcastle and Sculpture contest in August, Art Festival and Auction also in August, Vintage Car Rally in September and Winter Fest in January.
