Outdoor Activities
Spend time along the many rivers and lakes in the area fishing for a variety of species, or go boating through wild river valleys. Canoeing and kayaking are also popular activities on the Pine River from East Pine to Taylor. Chetwynd's trail system is well designed and developed for both hiking and mountain biking during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. These trails are networked through the foothills in and around the community, and are a great way to take in a small part of the northern boreal forest.

Location and Geography
Chetwynd lies in a gentle valley that abuts the foothills of the northern Rocky Mountains. Lakes and rivers are abundant in the region, including the Pine, Sukunka, Burnt, Moberly and Wolverine rivers, and Moberly Lake. Centurion Creek runs right through town. The continental climate means mild to cold winter temperatures with plenty of snow in the mountains, and warm summers.

Incorporated in 1962, Chetwynd is a youthful town that has excellent community spirit and locals pitching in to keep it clean and pretty.
Explore some of the defining aspects of Chetwynd's history by visiting the Little Prairie Heritage Museum, driving past once-working mills, or viewing the train yard.
Tour the community along a beautifully planned set of trails right through town and into the outlying area. The in-town trail portion is decorated with a multitude of colourful flowers and adorned by unique chainsaw carvings. Check out the 88 chainsaw carvings in town. Imagine the skill required to wield a chainsaw while carving precise details into a wooden sculpture. The chainsaw carvings are easily viewed along community trails near the Visitor Centre and throughout town.
