Boating & Sailing
Sailboat (Canadian Tourism Commission photo)
With more than 8,000 lakes and 15,000km/9,320mi of coastline found in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast region, there are ample opportunities for boating and sailing.
Charter your own vessel or join an organized departure. Several operators, including Bluewater Adventures, offer multi-day trips along the coast.
Jet boating tours are also a great way to experience the history and beauty of the Fraser River and numerous other rivers and lakes in this region.
Ocean Sailing
The rugged coastline of BC’s scenic central coast is a maze of straits, sounds, and fjords, with hundreds of islands and inlets.
Sail to remote coastal communities and explore Aboriginal history and undisturbed pristine destinations. Along the way, look for whales, eagles, porpoises and bears.

Sailing on Lakes
Tatlayoko Lake in the Chilcotin is popular as consistent afternoon thermal winds create excellent conditions. Tatlayoko means “lake of the big winds” in the Tsilhqot’in language. Chilko Lake is also another well-known lake for high winds in the afternoon. Lac La Hache is renowned for water sports and many people enjoy sailing, windsurfing and water skiing on this picturesque lake that is located south of Williams Lake.
Jet Boating on the Fraser River
On a jet boat tour, cruise up river towards Soda Creek, where paddlewheelers carried people and supplies to the Gold Rush in the 1800s, and down river to the Churn Creek Park where Aboriginal people lived, hunted and fished for centuries.
Enjoy the warmth of the Fraser River around the Lillooet area (one of the warmest spots in BC). Take in scenic wildlife trips, as well as fun whitewater adventures.
