The wildlife in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast is as varied and diverse as the landscape.

From lush coastal forests to the interior grasslands and mountain ranges, a wide variety of wildlife viewing opportunites can be experienced in this region.

Take a wildlife tour to the Great Bear Rainforest - one of National Geographic Traveler's 2013 "World's Best Trips" - and the only area in the world where the rare white Kermode (Spirit) bear is found. Marine life thrives here – a BC Ferries Discovery Coast ferry trip or one of many cruising adventures can provide memorable wildlife sightings.

The interior grasslands, plains and mountain ranges provide ideal habitat for bears, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats and bird life. A guided tour from Whitegold Adventures in Wells is an excellent introduction to the wildlife, history and scenery for which the area is famous. It’s even possible to snorkel with salmon with Kynoch Adventure Tours near Bella Coola.

Learn more about bear watching and bird watching or visit any of the region's parks and for the chance to see the wildlife, sights and landscapes that make the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast unique.

Our Grizzly Bear Tours have been selected by the Canadian Tourism Commission as part of their "Signature Experiences Collection"! Our tours run September through October. This is when the local rivers are teeming with salmon which draw the Grizzly Bears hoping to fatten up for the winter. At this time of year the Grizzlies are intent on fishing and are more tolerant of both other bears and people and are therefore much easier to observe.

Accompanied by an experienced guide, our non-motorized drift trips are the perfect way to see the bears and wildlife of the Bella Coola Valley.
