The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast is an unexpected place for wine, but the region actually has the same long growing seasons and hot, dry summers of BC's Okanagan wine region.

These conditions, combined with the adventurous spirit of Cariboo residents, have led to the region's first commercial winery. Discover the growing future of Cariboo wine at Fort Berens Estate Winery, which is located along the scenic Coast Mountain Circle Route near the Gold Rush town of Lillooet.

Fort Berens Estate Winery

Like the prospectors before them, an entrepreneurial Dutch family chose Lillooet as the perfect location to stake a claim in BC wines. Named for a historic Hudson Bay Company trading post, Fort Berens Estate Winery won silver at the 2010 All Canadian Wine Championships for their 2007 Meritage.

Tour the vineyard perched high above the Fraser River and sample hand-crafted wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Cariboo. Fort Berens Winery is open year-round; hours vary by season. Calling in advance for tours and tastings is recommended.
