At Vancouver International Airport (YVR), visitors can obtain rental cars or taxi transportation to Burnaby. This is also a drive of 25 minutes or less.
Visitors coming from the United States by car can follow Highway 99 (the Interstate 5 in the US) to the Highway 91 exit heading north, cross the Alex Fraser Bridge, stay on the right heading into New Westminster, and then take the Queensborough Bridge over into south Burnaby.
Major car rental agencies are easy to find in Burnaby, several located just north of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) and south of the parallel Lougheed Highway.
Trains and Buses
Trains and Greyhound buses arrive at the Pacific Central Station (1150 Station St.) in downtown Vancouver. To travel to Burnaby from there, get a taxi outside the station, or board the SkyTrain (Expo Line) at the adjacent Main Street-Science World station.
Public Transportation
Burnaby is part of Metro Vancouver's TransLink public transportation system, and buses run approximately between 5 am and 1 am. Discount fares are available after 6:30 pm and on weekends and public holidays. For TransLink customer information, call 604-953-3333 (6:30 am-11:30 pm).
Some noteworthy buses include the #135 SFU, an express bus that runs between Burrard Street in downtown Vancouver and Simon Fraser University (SFU) on Burnaby Mountain, and the #10 Hastings, which starts in downtown Vancouver and runs along Hastings Street like the #135, but terminates at the Kootenay Loop bus exchange.
The city has 11 SkyTrain stations. Patterson, Metrotown, Royal Oak and Edmonds are on the Expo Line that runs through central and south Burnaby. To the north, Gilmore, Brentwood Town Centre, Holdom, Sperling, Lake City, University/Production Way, and Lougheed Town Centre are on the Millennium Line.
Although some areas of Burnaby are hilly, walking, biking and rollerblading are also ways of getting around.
