Phenomenal Food Courts
Taking time out from shopping? The diverse food court at the Metropolis at Metrotown shopping mall (4700-4800 Kingsway) is Western Canada's largest, with seating for 1,000-plus, a vast selection and even a fireplace to huddle around on those winter lunch breaks.
For Asian specialties, try the food court at the T&T Supermarket, also within Metropolis at Metrotown. Or head over to the Crystal Mall (4500 Kingsway), which has close to 30 Asian food-court eateries. Kingsway is also lined with mainstream chain restaurants.

Neighbourhood Eateries and Ethnic Food
To the east, along Edmonds Street, diners will find Balkan, Chinese, Italian, Nigerian and Thai eateries, among other ethnic taste treats.
In North Burnaby, the Heights neighbourhood is a dining destination. Dozens of character restaurants, many of them family-owned, spice up an 11-block stretch of East Hastings Street.
Anton's Pasta Bar (4260 East Hastings St.) has specialized in monster portions since 1983. For more than 50 years, the Valley Bakery (4058 East Hastings St.) has turned out cocktail sausage rolls and signature buttercream cakes. A more recent addition is the mood-lit Pear Tree Restaurant (4120 E. Hastings St.). Owner Scott Jaeger was named Vancouver weekly magazine The Georgia Straight's Chef of the Year in 2007 for his West Coast cuisine that combines flair with fresh, local ingredients.
Picturesque Dining
Horizons (100 Centennial Way), located on Burnaby Mountain near Simon Fraser University (SFU), features stunning, big-window views of Vancouver and Burrard Inlet. Many dishes, such as rainbow trout or Pacific oysters, are grilled over green alderwood for a distinctive West Coast flavour.
Another local institution can be found in scenic Deer Lake Park. The Hart House Restaurant (6664 Deer Lake Ave.) occupies a Tudor-style, 1910-built residence, and its menu ranges from Fraser Valley greens to BC smoked salmon.
