Farms & Markets
Granville Island Market, Vancouver (Canadian Tourism Commission photo)
Farms and markets have been a part of rural British Columbia life for more than 100 years.
Whether it’s the Fraser Valley, Thompson Okanagan region, or Vancouver Island, many farms welcome visitors for tours and demonstrations. Purchase fresh fruit and produce, just-collected free-range eggs, delicious cheese and milk, and much more.
Touring some of BC's best farms can provide a rather tasty education. It’s a chance to learn about organic farming and other sustainable farming practices – and taste a few samples! The Vancouver, Coast & Mountains region has self-guided Circle Farm Tours to follow.
British Columbia also hosts farmers markets in many communities. Most farmers markets take place on weekends from spring through fall, but some places also have winter markets. Markets enable shoppers to meet the farmers and artisans who grew, raised, caught or produced the food for sale. Enjoy this tempting opportunity to taste a bounty of farm-fresh local foods and to browse and buy locally made arts and crafts.

In 1989, the 'Farm-gate Winery' license was created. This allowed small growers to start their own operations. Lang Vineyards was the first to receive such a license & opened in Spring 1990. The small but superbly equiped winery has since grown well beyond the farm winery concept.
The winery has enjoyed success with Riesling, ice-wines & a dessert wine called "The Original Canadian Maple Wine". The only hybrid varietal remaining is the Marechal Foch, which is also one of Lang's most popular wines.
Come enjoy the view & taste our award-winning wines!
As a member of the BC Wine Institute, we are held to a high standard. The BC VQA is your assurance that the wine you're purchasing is 100% from BC & has met rigorous quality regulations.
